How it works
Clindamycin is an antibiotic that stops bacteria making proteins; it is active against the bacteria behind bacterial vaginosis.
Clotrimazole is an antifungal that damages the fungal cell membrane, clearing Candida infection.
Dosage and how to take it
For vaginal use only. Insert one softgel deep into the vagina, usually at bedtime, for the number of nights the doctor advises.
The dose and length of treatment depend on the condition, the patient and the response, and are decided by the treating doctor. Do not change the dose or stop the medicine without medical advice.
Side effects of ALVI
Not everyone gets side effects. Those reported most often with its ingredients include:
- Local irritation or itching
- Vaginal discharge
- Local burning or irritation
Contact the doctor if a side effect is severe, does not settle, or if you notice a rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
Precautions to keep in mind
- Can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms during treatment and for a few days after
- Tell the doctor about any other medicines, supplements or medical conditions before starting
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light and out of reach of children
