Uses of FEMIWISE-35
Cyproterone acetate with ethinyl estradiol, used for androgen-related acne and hair growth, including in PCOS.
- Hormonal acne
- Excess facial or body hair (hirsutism)
- PCOS with high androgens
Indications

- Moderate to severe acne related to androgen sensitivity

How it works
Ethinyl estradiol is the oestrogen in the pill; it stabilises the cycle and, with the progestogen, stops ovulation.
Cyproterone acetate blocks androgen receptors, which reduces acne and excess hair growth caused by male hormones.
Dosage and how to take it
One tablet is taken daily at about the same time for 21 days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free break, starting on the day the doctor or pack insert advises. Follow the pack insert for missed tablets. Skin improvement usually takes several cycles.
The dose and length of treatment depend on the condition, the patient and the response, and are decided by the treating doctor. Do not change the dose or stop the medicine without medical advice.
Side effects of FEMIWISE-35
Not everyone gets side effects. Those reported most often with its ingredients include:
- Nausea
- Breast tenderness
- Headache
- Spotting between periods
- Mood changes
- Weight change
- Reduced libido
Contact the doctor if a side effect is severe, does not settle, or if you notice a rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
Precautions to keep in mind
- Not for women who smoke and are over 35, or with a history of blood clots, migraine with aura, uncontrolled high blood pressure or liver disease
- Blood pressure should be checked before starting and during use
- Carries a higher risk of blood clots than some other pills, so it is used for androgen-related skin problems rather than as a routine contraceptive
- Liver function may need checking on long-term use
- Tell the doctor about any other medicines, supplements or medical conditions before starting
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light and out of reach of children
